serial #1423521, 30-06, 24” 1-52 dated Springfield Armory barrel with a bright very good plus bore with traces of pinprick pitting but strong rifling. The rifle retains about 98% arsenal reapplied parkerized finish with very light wear on the high edges and contact points, some light handling marks on the gas cylinder, and a spot of wear where the operating rod contacts the scope base. The checkered steel buttplate shows light wear at the heel and toe, and one screw appears to be a replacement. The walnut stock is in very good condition as lightly cleaned with scattered light dings and handling marks consistent with age and use. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, bears the faint remains of a boxed “S.A. / G.H.S.” inspector’s cartouche and large Ordnance Wheel, and two mostly faded and only partially remaining circled “P” proofs are stamped on the inside of the pistolgrip; a “3” is crisply stamped on the bottom of the pistolgrip. The receiver and barrel markings remain mostly crisp, and the “-1 W.R.A.” markings on the bolt are lightly faded. The trigger housing is marked “-12”, the hammer “-8”, and the relief cut operating rod “6”, with all being of Springfield Armory manufacture. Like the bolt, the triggerguard is Winchester manufactured, and marked “C46025 W.R.A.”. The barrel is marked with the correct “D7312555” drawing number on the top of the barrel, beneath the rear handguard, which is correct for a M1D barrel produced before the Fall of 1952. Mounted to the rifle is a M84 telescopic sight in very good condition retaining about 85-90% flaking black lacquer finish, with clear glass and a post and crosshair reticle; the scope is serialized “18136” and is fitted with a still malleable rubber eye piece and a steel sunshade over the objective lens. The rifle also features a milled triggerguard, 2-slot gas plug, T105 rear sight adjustment knobs, a leather cheekpiece in very good plus condition stamped with a faded “MRT / 2 52”, a M2 flash hider by Hart Manufacturing, and a green canvas sling in very good condition; a three-piece cleaning rod and plastic oiler are stored in the butt-trap. A solid M1D that would fit well in a collection or on the range. (14B9100-1351) [Richard “Stretch” Kennedy Collection] {C&R} (2000/3000)
