serial #3597279, 30-06, 24” 1-52 dated Springfield Armory barrel with a bright about excellent bore with strong rifling. The rifle retains about 97% charcoal black parkerized finish with light wear around muzzle and front sight, spots of light wear on the high edges, and a few light handling marks. The walnut stock is in very good condition as lightly cleaned with an abrasion on the left side of the forward handguard, spots of synthetic filler on the left side beneath the receiver, and numerous light handling marks consistent with age and use; the steel buttplate is proud of the stock along the left side. The stock is marked only with a mostly crisp circled “P” proof on the inside of the pistolgrip. The receiver and barrel markings remain crisp, and the top of the barrel is properly marked with the “D7312555” drawing number beneath the rear handguard. The parts are of Springfield Armory make with the trigger housing marked “-14”, the hammer marked “-5”, the bolt marked “-12”, and the factory relief cut operating rod is postwar manufactured. The M84 scope retains about 97% original blue with a few specks of oxidation, a few light handling marks, and light edge wear on the turret caps, and features a post and crosshair reticle with clear glass; the scope is fitted with a rubber eye-piece and a steel sunshade is in place over the objective lens. The scope is serialized “11134” and an aged handwritten tag has been taped ahead of the ocular lens reading “SLG. M1D. Nr. 2061311”. A similarly aged tag has been taped to the heel of the receiver, which has faded and yellowed, which appears to read “skala justert ved innsk…“ the remainder of which is absent due to the bottom right corner having torn away. The rifle features a milled triggerguard, the later 2-slot gas plug, the post-WWII T105 rear sight drums, and a leather cheekpiece in very good condition mounted to the stock butt which is faintly marked “MRT / 2 52”. Altogether a very good example of the M1D rifle, that appears to have spent time with our Northern European allies. (14B9100-1352) [Richard “Stretch” Kennedy Collection] {C&R} (1800/2200)
