serial #6894p, 8mm Mauser, 24'' barrel with a dark about good bore with light pitting in the grooves but evident rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this ''ce / 44'' coded rifle have an overall brown patina with some light wear on the high edges and contact points, scattered specks of light oxidation, pinprick pitting, and scattered light handling marks. The laminated hardwood stock is in about very good condition with a 2 1/2'' lamination crack on the wrist behind the receiver, an about 1'' crack traveling from the top of the recoil lug to the receiver ring on the right, multiple cracks the length of the handguard, and scattered light handling marks. A faded ''H'' is stamped on the right side of the buttstock, and ''HENDRO'' is hand scratched into the recess below the bolt handle. The receiver markings are softened but still largely legible, the parts are marked with the appropriate ''(eagle) / 280'', ''(eagle) / 37'', and ''(eagle) / 135'' waffenamts with exception of the follower, which appears to be from a different model Mauser rifle, and the bolt assembly which is numbered to a different rifle; the rear sight assembly and barrel bands are numbered to the rifle. The rifle is sighted with the standard barleycorn front sight and tangent rear sight, the elevation adjustment for which still functions well; the front sight hood is absent. The rifle functions well mechanically, and the follower has been modified to remove the bolt hold-open feature. Included with the rifle is a leather sling in very good condition. A good option for the budding martial collector. (14A9995-6) {C&R} (500/700)
