serial #419086, 25-20 WCF, 24” octagon barrel with button magazine and an about good oxidized bore. The receiver retains about 50% original blue with moderate wear on the high edges and contact points with generous remains of blue on the sides and protected areas around the lever and hammer, light oxidation staining, and scattered spots of light oxidation. The barrel retains about 85% original blue with light wear on the high edges, light oxidation staining and scattered light handling marks. The lever shows a light gray-brown patina with spots of case color visible near the receiver. The smooth walnut stock and capped forend are in very good condition as lightly cleaned with old synthetic filler at the end of the upper and lower tangs, light oil staining at the edges, a small chip forming on the right side of the forend at the receiver and two tiny chips at the forend cap, scattered light handling marks, and a lightly added finish. Two small holes are present on the toe line approximately 1” apart, likely from a removed sling swivel, and the crescent steel buttplate has toned to gray with spots of old oxidation scattered along the right side. The two-line barrel address is light but still easily legible, as are the Winchester proofs and caliber designation, and the upper tang is correctly and crisply marked “MODEL 1892 / -WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK”; two added holes about 1” apart are present on the underside of the barrel, about 1 1/2” from the forend cap. The rifle is sighted with a nickel-silver blade front sight and a semi-buckhorn sporting-style rear sight, and appears to function well mechanically. An honest 1908-made rifle that would be a good choice for a beginning collector. (14B9678-27) {C&R} [Lester Hull Collection] (600/800)
