serial #15934, 12 ga., 30” barrels choked a light full in both, with very good bores showing some scattered light pitting, a spot or two in the right tube which may be a bit more moderate, the right tube with a tiny ding, remnants of an old raised a light dent, and the left tube with a small ding near the muzzles. The barrels are a warm, mostly smooth plum brown, damascus star pattern showing contrasting pewter and brown their full length, with a few light handling marks here and there and a few sparsely scattered spots of light oxidation staining. There are light engraved bands at the breeches with geometric engraving on the dolls head extension. The frame and lockplates are a pleasing smooth silvery and pewter case-hardened patina showing some areas of light oxidation staining and perhaps a few very light pinprick pits. The water table is marked with a capital “E” after the serial number and frame, plates and fences show light geometric engraving with some nice light sprays of tight scroll, flower petals around the screw heads and sporting dog and woodcock right and left respectively, each marked “Lefever Arms Co.” as well. A few of the screw head slots show some light damage, the bow of the guard shows a nice hunting dog with a retrieved bird in its mouth. The checkered capped English walnut pistolgrip buttstock rates very good showing an old light cleaning which has left the checkering mostly flat-top, with reacquired dings and small handling marks from the years and a chip at the toe of the buttplate. The length of pull to the LA Co. checkered hard rubber buttplate is 14” with drops of 1 11/16” and 2 7/8”. The splinter style forend shows perhaps a bit more wear, the metal being proud of the wood, someone has started to chase the checkering pattern on the grip and there is an old tiny crack to the right of the tang, it is tight and unobtrusive and will not flex. The gun locks up tight on face with the top lever starting to drift left and seems to function well mechanically. It features double triggers, extractors, automatic safety and cocking indicators on the plates. A very respectable old E-grade that may still serve well afield. (39680-1) {ANTIQUE} (700/900)
