serial #10930, 12 ga., 26 1/2” barrels (un-choked), slightly shortened during the period of use, showing about very good bores with some very scant remnants of some light pitting, showing evidence of having been professionally honed, more prominent for the last 10” or so, with remnants of a few light dings as well. The barrels show a fading twist star pattern damascus most of their lengths, with some scattered light oxidation and the expected light handling marks or light scratches, toning to pewter in the carry area above the frame. The muzzles as well are quite a bit wrinkly and rather thin and there is a bit of light engraving at the breeches and on the doll’s head extension. Wall thicknesses right at the muzzles are .015”, into .020” about 2” back and at 3” from the muzzles well into .025-.030” in thickness. The frame and lockplates are primarily a mottled pewter and plum patina showing some scattered light oxidation staining here and there but no mentionable pitting. The lockplates show light sprays of open scroll with geometric engraving around the screw heads with a flying duck right and gunning dog on point left. They show some fading smoky blue case colors, evident beneath the fences and on the plates, with light borderline engraving on the balance. The checkered capped English walnut buttstock rates about very good with the expected overall light dings and handling marks, showing an old light cleaning years ago which has left the edges somewhat soft, it would appear the checkering was neatly chased at that point. There is a bit of oil soaking at the junction of frame with the checkering flat-top and a tiny chip at the rear of the upper tang. The length of pull to the checkered Lefever buttplate is 13 3/4” with drops of 1 3/4” and 3”. The top lever catch is worn as the lever does not stay to the right when the action is open and the extractors seem a bit loose, but the gun locks up well for the most part with a very tiny sliver of light visible between the left tube and the standing breech. Features double triggers, automatic safety, pin style cocking indicators, the gun seems to function properly mechanically. (39680-2) {ANTIQUE} (700/900)
