serial #88388, 12 ga., 28” and 26” Titanic steel barrels, choked a light full in each and about cylinder bore in each, respectively, all showing about very good bores, each with scattered light pitting. The longer tubes show light dings that were raised in a number of spots, a couple of which are remaining, the shorter tubes with some areas of more moderate pitting. Both sets of barrels retain perhaps 97% later restored blue which has left the remnants of light pitting beneath, and also reacquiring some light handling marks from being hunted, the shorter set of tubes with oxidation and light pitting for about half the length of their undersides. The No. 2 frame shows lightly softened D-Grade scroll and sporting dog engraving, the vignettes also showing some minor handling and impact marks from the years, a flock of waterfowl on the belly of the frame. The metal surfaces show perhaps 70% later blued finish with the high points and carry areas toning to a smooth pewter patina. The checkered round knob pistolgrip English walnut buttstock rates good to perhaps near very good, as refinished many years ago, there are only light vestiges of the checkering pattern remaining and the metal is proud over all, the toeline showing cracks left and right and a small chip missing, certainly nothing that couldn’t be rectified by a good wood man who knew his business; there is some nice grain figure hiding beneath. The length of pull to the checkered skeleton butt is 13 3/4” with drops of1 3/4 ” and 2 3/4”. The barrels and both sets of forearms are appropriately numbered to each other in a matching font, one of the forearms additionally numbered with a “1”, the other with a “2”. Both sets are slightly off-face and exhibit light slivers of light between the breech faces and the standing breech. Equipped with double triggers, extractors and automatic safety the gun does seem to function properly mechanically and the chambers seem to be 2 3/4”, although the shorter set of tubes is somewhat tight and doesn’t come quite up on the plug-style chamber gauge but certainly doesn’t seem to be 2 1/2”. The Parker Gun identification and serialization guide confirms the D Grade, extra set of barrels and pistolgrip stock. A good old DH grade 2 barrel set which is likely worthy of some conservation by a professional who knows his business. (39571-3) {C&R} (1200/1800)
