2 1/4” bore, 29 5/8” deep on the interior, vented. The brass barrel is just a hair shy of 36” overall from muzzle face to cascabel with a lightly oxidized steel lined bore (1/4” liner thickness) showing pitting along its bottom surface the full-length, more moderate near the powder chamber toward the breech end. The tube itself is smooth without astragals or fillets in the form of the U.S. 12 pound napoleon models of 1857. The brass is a pleasing dull brown mustard patina, with spots of light brown oxidation scattered about the surface giving a nice mottled patina. The gun sits atop a replica U.S. No. 1 1/2 field carriage with blackened brass hardware including cheek reinforces and capsquares. The left side trunnion is marked “001/Cascade/Cannon/Co”, the right side trunnion marked “Ball Brass/Co. Tacoma”. The construction of the carriage appears to be of oak, lightly varnished, now flaking somewhat from the years, but the overall construction is very nice, with quick-detach wheels, retained by replicas of the original U.S. ordnance pintle-style pins. The tires are likely welded steel, as are the bands on the hubs, one of the capsquare retainers has been replaced by a common bolt but it seems to be functioning as-designed. It features two hand spikes, two rammers/sponges, worm and is adjustable for elevation with a four-spoked knob screw and includes a miniature prolong rope. The overall height of the wheels is 28 1/2” with an overall length from muzzle face to outside edge of trailing ring of just under 6 feet, axle-tip-to-axle-tip width is about 40”. Some of the iron or steel surfaces show a little bit of oxidation but a bit of black paint would spruce them up in short fashion. Just as a reference, American billiard balls are 2 1/4” in diameter. Really a top-notch replica that was quality-made throughout. While reference can be found to the Ball Brass Co. in Tacoma, nothing is known of the “Cascade Cannon Co.”, one would infer that this is their first, and perhaps only piece, due to its serialization and the lack of any subsequent models being located.
