The barrels are a pleasing soft brown-gray patina retaining much of their wavy Damascus pattern with some sparse fine oxidation staining and light pitting, more prominent at the muzzle. The frame and lockplates are a gray and brown case-hardened patina with spots of light staining, the triggerguard also showing some fine pinprick pitting. They are engraved with attractive foliate sprays and border scroll engraving, the right side hammer screw is a replacement. The checkered straight grip walnut buttstock rates excellent and is a quality-made replacement, the tang of the triggerguard having been converted to straight grip, also showing an old repair at its root. The splinter forend remains near excellent with a few light handling marks or chips and a little added finish. The forend tip insert is intact and the wedge pin and escutcheons are lightly engraved. The length of pull to the steel buttplate is 13 3/4" with drops of 1 3/4" and 2 3/4". The lock-up remains mostly tight as professionally tightened with neatly dressed dabs of weld at the locking surfaces of the rear lugs, the barrels however slightly off-face. The locks are for the most part mechanically functional, their half-cock rests are worn and the hammers are not drawn back quite enough when the top lever is actuated, so they must be manually put on their half-cock rests, which is not quite far enough back to break the barrels (the firing pins protruding a bit too far). An attractive Remington-Whitmore hammer-gun that needs a bit of TLC.
