The tunic is fully correct in material and detail, made of green wool felt with green silk lining, dark green piping and aluminum embroidered patches and insignia yet has no markings or labels and may be more contemporary than the Second World War. The insignia comprise Oberstleutnant collar and sleeve patches, embroidered Parteiadler on the right breast, Edelweiss patch, and brass ''82'' numerals over a gilt brass starburst on either shoulder strap. No size labels, maker labels or inspection marks are present within the tunic. Approximate measurements are: backwaist 16''; total back length 27''; collar 17''; chest 44''; sleeve 25''. The tunic is in excellent near-mint condition, showing bright unblemished aluminum, no signs of previous use and no wear except a bit of looseness in the thread of the lowest button. The trousers appear to be of correct age and very well kept. One of the buttons is missing from the left leg, the fabric shows barely visible sweat stains commensurate with light wear and the tiniest instances of mothing but otherwise the trousers show little to no wear and rate excellent overall. Measurements are about 32'' at the waist with a 37'' hem. The cap appears likewise authentic, showing very subtle patches of age fading on the top face and some very light patina on the aluminum Parteiadler pin. The silk-lined interior shows some fraying at the crown where the label has been lost. Otherwise the cap shows minimal wear and rates about excellent as well. The boots show signs of moderate wear, particularly on the soles, as well as some crazing and cracking at the flex areas above the heel, but no tears or deterioration, rating very good plus to excellent. Pinned to the left breast of the tunic there are three WWI-era medals: the Iron Cross of 1914, 2nd Class; Das Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs 1914-1918; a DRA Sports badge. All appear correct and authentic, rating excellent with no more than age-appropriate light patina here and there. Included with this lot is a small excerpt of typed notes from the consignor which find that the insignia on the tunic correspond to the Oberstleutnant of the Gebirgs-Pioniere-Bataillion No. 82 (Schwaz, 2nd Mountain Division, XVIII Armeekorps) identified as one Herm Wiery. Per those notes, ''The 2nd Mountain Division took part in the invasions of Poland and Norway, serving in Lapland above the Arctic Circle during the winter of 1941-42 before returning to Norway for recuperation. From 1942-44 the division served in northern Finland on the Petsamo sector. Driven back into Norway by the Red Army at the end of 1944, then transferred to the Alsatian front, ending WW2 near Colmar.'' Oberstleutnant Wiery would have worn a uniform of this configuration as his dress wear throughout the war. Combining period specimens with an expertly made and accurate replica tunic, this set will make for an excellent museum-grade example display.
