This is a fabulous rifle and is the type used by the Irish during the long-range matches against the Americans at Creedmoor and Dollymount in 1874 and 1875. This rifle dates to 1873 or 1874 and may well have been used in these matches. It conforms to Creedmoor rules with a single standard trigger and the rifle weighs exactly 10 pounds with the long-range sight installed. It is interesting that the Irish team who shot Rigby percussion rifles were competing against Americans who were almost exclusively shooting Remington and Sharps breechloaders. The top of the barrel is engraved "John Rigby & Co. Dublin & London" and the lock is engraved "Jno Rigby & Co.". There is no engraving or embellishments on the rifle, it was built with one purpose, to perform at the target. The quality is exactly as we would expect from this world class gunmaker and the condition is fabulous. The barrel retains 90 - 95% original blue overall with the only loss due to light even thinning. The lock, barrel breech and tang show about 95% original color case-hardened finish which remains quite colorful. The bolster has handsome curved flash shield and has its original clean out screw in place. The checkered English walnut stock shows nice figure and rates excellent with horn gripcap, forend tip and a coarsely checkered steel shotgun buttplate. The stock retains 95% original finish and shows just normal light handling marks, sharp checkering with just a couple of light dings in the forend checkering flattening several points. Stock edges are crisp and the dropper points are very well defined. The triggerguard retains about 40% bright original blue and the case color on the triggerplate is bright. The stock has a heel position base which is precisely inlet on three screw base that follows the contour of the comb. This fabulous rifle shows no alterations of any kind and comes with its original and very rare cased set of long-range sights. The long-range staff is numbered to the rifle, the front windgauge with spirit level appears original in all respects and extra front sight inserts are included along with tiny adjustment turnscrew and wrench. The case is correct and original and rates very good plus to excellent. Also included is the original false muzzle which is numbered to the gun and is secured by a small stud on barrel similarly to a socket bayonet. A superb example of these extremely high quality Irish percussion target rifles from the Golden Age of long range competitive shooting. No items are to be removed from our facility until paid for in full by the purchaser. GUIDELINES FOR FIREARM DELIVERIES All Federal, State and Local firearms laws will be strictly adhered to. FFL holders may take possession of any firearm on day of sale (excluding Class III) when they present a signed copy of their Federal Firearms License. If an FFL dealer is sending an “agent” to pick up items, that person must be a bona fide, paid employee of the company with a W4 on file. Outside contractors cannot be used as pickup agents. A SIGNED LETTER FROM THE FFL STATING THIS FACT MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF PICK UP. The FFL Dealer will in turn be notified that a transfer was made to you as their agent. New Hampshire residents over the age of 21 may take possession of any firearm, on day of sale, provided the proper paperwork is completed and the transfer has been approved either through the N.H. State Police or the FBI NICS System, whichever is appropriate based upon the type of firearm(s) purchased. Non-resident individuals from states without waiting periods may take possession of long guns on day of sale after completing the proper forms and successfully completing a NICS check. If you reside in a state with a waiting period, your items will need to be shipped to a dealer in your state. No modern handguns will be delivered to non-resident individuals. All modern handguns purchased by non-resident individuals will need to be delivered to or shipped to an FFL holder in the buyer’s home state. Buyer is responsible for any and all shipping charges and all items must be paid for on day of sale.
