The barrel of this interesting rifle retains about 80% of a fine quality period restored plum-brown finish showing some overall mild thinning under bright light, a few light dings and scuffs along the edges and some remnants of fine pinprick pitting beneath the finish. The Remington Arms Co. address and caliber designation remain intact and quite crisp. The action retains perhaps 70% original vibrant case-hardened colors that remain particularly vivid along the left side, triggerguard and either side of the hammer with most of the loss due to some cleaned light pitting along the right side, top of breech and lower tang that are toning to a silvery pewter patina. The hammer and breechblock retain about 90% original blue with loss due to some old oxidation and light pitting along the spurs. The checkered pistolgrip walnut Schuetzen-style buttstock and forend with ebony tip insert remain in very fine condition as very lightly cleaned and refinished long ago showing some sparsely scattered light dings and handling marks. The forend is stamp-numbered matching the action and the diamond point checkering shows light overall wear but remains intact. The checkering along the pistolgrip is of a slightly different style with finer points and the buttstock is un-numbered and likely a replacement from the period of use. It has certainly been with the arm for a very long time and was expertly crafted and fitted. The buttstock features a generous left-side cheekpiece and heavy nickel-plated brass buttplate retaining about 98% finish and showing some scattered light dings. The name "C. H. BARNES" is stamped in small block letters on the inside of the buttplate. The barrel is matching the frame, the rear sight dovetail has been blanked and the rifle is sighted with a Lyman target globe front sight and tang sight with wide aperture disc. The action seems to function well mechanically. An attractive and interesting No. 2 that can do doubt still be enjoyed at the range. No items are to be removed from our facility until paid for in full by the purchaser. GUIDELINES FOR FIREARM DELIVERIES All Federal, State and Local firearms laws will be strictly adhered to. FFL holders may take possession of any firearm on day of sale (excluding Class III) when they present a signed copy of their Federal Firearms License. If an FFL dealer is sending an “agent” to pick up items, that person must be a bona fide, paid employee of the company with a W4 on file. Outside contractors cannot be used as pickup agents. A SIGNED LETTER FROM THE FFL STATING THIS FACT MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF PICK UP. The FFL Dealer will in turn be notified that a transfer was made to you as their agent. New Hampshire residents over the age of 21 may take possession of any firearm, on day of sale, provided the proper paperwork is completed and the transfer has been approved either through the N.H. State Police or the FBI NICS System, whichever is appropriate based upon the type of firearm(s) purchased. Non-resident individuals from states without waiting periods may take possession of long guns on day of sale after completing the proper forms and successfully completing a NICS check. If you reside in a state with a waiting period, your items will need to be shipped to a dealer in your state. No modern handguns will be delivered to non-resident individuals. All modern handguns purchased by non-resident individuals will need to be delivered to or shipped to an FFL holder in the buyer’s home state.
