This rifle is beautifully engraved on lock with scroll, sunbursts and nice border work. The barrel breech and tang show this same lovely engraving and the top flat section of the barrel is engraved in fancy script "J. Medbery Rochester". The three raised ribs on the barrel are on the top and sides, the top flat extends to the end of the forend and has fancy scroll engraving at the termination point, the side flat extends half this distance. The rifle has silver furniture which is all nicely engraved including the triggerguard, buttplate, toeplate, and even the sides of the forend cap are engraved with sunbursts. The triggerguard terminates in a fancy pineapple finial to the front, the toeplate with a very similar motif. In addition to the silver mounts, there are some gold accents as well. The stock flat opposite the lock shows a round gold inlay which is engraved with opposing interlocked triangles with a flower blossom at the center. The wedge escutcheons are also of gold as are a pair of six pointed stars which appear on the left and right cheek rests and a small wrist plate. The lock is affixed by a single screw through the lock and into the breech plug. The hammer is broken with the top half missing, this likely accounting for the superb condition of the rifle. The barrel retains about 90% original brown finish overall with subtle damascus pattern visible its entire length. There are a couple patches of light oxidation and pitting near the muzzle and a little scattered light oxidation staining. The lock, breech and tang show nearly all of their original color case-hardened finish which has mottled slightly over time but has a lovely appearance. The stock is of highly figured American black walnut and is made with both left and right handed cheekpieces each with the previously mentioned gold star inlay. The wrist is finely checkered and the toeline of stock is stamped "A.C. BURSIEL" neatly with a one-piece stamp. The condition of the stock is excellent with 97% original finish remaining and with sharp edges, crisp checkering and perfect fit. The rifle is sighted with a simple stud front, open rear and small folding tang mounted windage adjustable peepsight. The top ramrod thimble is missing however, the lower thimble is present, so a talented gunsmith could fashion an exact replacement quite easily. This rifle is illustrated and discussed in Swinney & Rowe's The New York State Firearms Trade on page 1115, the book states that Bursiel was an "old-time mayor of Rochester" although we have been unable to confirm that. There will be a $35.00 charge for all returned checks. A 17.5% Buyer’s Premium will be added to all purchases regardless of price with a 2.5% discount when paid with check, cash or wire transfer. No items are to be removed from our facility until paid for in full by the purchaser. GUIDELINES FOR FIREARM DELIVERIES All Federal, State and Local firearms laws will be strictly adhered to. FFL holders may take possession of any firearm on day of sale (excluding Class III) when they present a signed copy of their Federal Firearms License. If an FFL dealer is sending an “agent” to pick up items, that person must be a bona fide, paid employee of the company with a W4 on file. Outside contractors cannot be used as pickup agents. A SIGNED LETTER FROM THE FFL STATING THIS FACT MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF PICK UP. The FFL Dealer will in turn be notified that a transfer was made to you as their agent. New Hampshire residents over the age of 21 may take possession of any firearm, on day of sale, provided the proper paperwork is completed and the transfer has been approved either through the N.H. State Police or the FBI NICS System, whichever is appropriate based upon the type of firearm(s) purchased. Non-resident individuals from states without waiting periods may take possession of long guns on day of sale after completing the proper forms and successfully completing a NICS check. If you reside in a state with a waiting period, your items will need to be shipped to a dealer in your state. No modern handguns will be delivered to non-resident individuals. All modern handguns purchased by non-resident individuals will need to be delivered to or shipped to an FFL holder in the buyer’s home state. Buyer is responsible for any and all shipping charges and all items must be paid for on day of sale. Bidders should be familiar with their local and state laws as Amoskeag Auction Co., Inc. will not be responsible for any parties purchasing items which may not be possessed in, or shipped to their state of residence.
