The metal surfaces of this interesting Belgian-made revolver retain perhaps 75% original nickel finish that shows light flaking overall, blending nicely with silvery gunmetal patina along with a few small areas of mild brown freckling, some scattered light dings and minor tool marks. The sides of the hammer show lovely fire blue with some minor silvering along the spur. The small cover plate behind the trigger is no longer present and a few of the screw heads show light slot wear. The arm is embellished with nice wide flowing foliate motifs with stippled shaded backgrounds and tasteful geometric patterns along the top barrel flat and backstrap. The black floral molded hard rubber grips remain in very fine condition showing a small shallow chip at the base of the right panel, some scattered light handling marks and the floral pattern remains crisp. The action remains functional with good timing and lock-up somewhat loose. The cylinder is also marked in small lettering "THE GUARDIAN AMERICAN MODEL OF 1878" and the barrel flats are neatly engraved with "30ME REGT TAL D'INFRIE" on the left flat, "CONCOURS DE TIR DE 1887" on lower left flat, "BON CIE" on bottom flat and "PRIX A MR." on right flat. These markings provide us with a wealth of information regarding the provenance of the arm, indicating it was a prize from the 30th Infantry Regiment's shooting competition of 1887 although sadly the winning soldier neglected to have his name or company engraved along the appropriate areas. It is interesting that such a revolver was presented as a shooting prize given the fact that the French military had by then been using centerfire cartridges, indeed the smokeless powder Lebel rifle had just been adopted. In any event this is a very interesting little revolver with rarely seen period presentation that would make a fine addition to any martial or French arms collection. No items are to be removed from our facility until paid for in full by the purchaser. GUIDELINES FOR FIREARM DELIVERIES All Federal, State and Local firearms laws will be strictly adhered to. FFL holders may take possession of any firearm on day of sale (excluding Class III) when they present a signed copy of their Federal Firearms License. If an FFL dealer is sending an “agent” to pick up items, that person must be a bona fide, paid employee of the company with a W4 on file. Outside contractors cannot be used as pickup agents. A SIGNED LETTER FROM THE FFL STATING THIS FACT MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF PICK UP. The FFL Dealer will in turn be notified that a transfer was made to you as their agent. New Hampshire residents over the age of 21 may take possession of any firearm, on day of sale, provided the proper paperwork is completed and the transfer has been approved either through the N.H. State Police or the FBI NICS System, whichever is appropriate based upon the type of firearm(s) purchased. Non-resident individuals from states without waiting periods may take possession of long guns on day of sale after completing the proper forms and successfully completing a NICS check. If you reside in a state with a waiting period, your items will need to be shipped to a dealer in your state. No modern handguns will be delivered to non-resident individuals. All modern handguns purchased by non-resident individuals will need to be delivered to or shipped to an FFL holder in the buyer’s home state. Buyer is responsible for any and all shipping charges and all items must be paid for on day of sale. C&R - for firearms that fall under the ATF Curio & Relics licensing and if purchased by a person with a “C&R License” no paperwork is required.
