The barrel retains about 95% original blue, the loss is due to scattered light oxidation staining which has flaked to brown and has left some areas of light pinprick pitting, primarily on the right of barrel. The right side of the barrel exhibits light abrasive streaking to pewter where some light abrasive was used years ago to remove the surface oxidation present; the pitting right at the muzzle a bit more prominent. The frame and cylinder retain about 97% plus original blue, the loss due to scattered light surface oxidation staining, but much less so than the barrel, with wear on the leading edge of the frame and leading edge of the triggerguard bow, both of these areas showing light pitting, the bow of the guard with the lion’s share. The grooved trigger and patent date hammer exhibit excellent vibrant original color case-hardening, with most wear being at the left rear of the hammer and left side lower trigger. The checkered walnut pre-magna style grips with silver Smith & Wesson medallions rate about excellent showing a tiny handling mark here or there, they are stamp-numbered to the gun on their interior. The flat-faced front sight has a silver Call bead with much of the blue flaked from the blade and there is a square-notch blued rear blade. The arm comes in its original red two-piece box with metal corners and gold and black print. The box itself rates very good showing only light scuffing along the edges and corners with all of the print vibrant and readable including the depiction of the revolver on the lid of the box. It is numbered to the gun on a white manila sticker on its underside in pencil, the underside of the box also showing a rather large spot of water damage. The gun seems to function well mechanically and would likely perform very well at the range while still maintaining a degree of collectibility.
