serial #3113791, 30-06, 24” 8-52 dated Springfield Armory barrel with a bright excellent bore. The rifle retains about 98% arsenal applied parkerized finish with a few specks of oxidation on the stock ferrule and handguard metal, and scattered light handling marks. The walnut stock is in near excellent condition as lightly cleaned with a few light dings near the buttplate, traces of original dark finish near the rear of the receiver and buttplate, and a few light handling marks. A bare hint of a “P” proof can be seen on the inside of the pistolgrip, and the stock is otherwise unmarked. The receiver markings remain crisp, with the serial number ink highlighted, the hammer is marked “-5 SA”, the two slot gas plug is marked “T / PAX”, and the rear sight windage adjustment knob is marked “BME”. One leg of the receiver is hand marked “T E / 6-69”, denoting conversion to M1D configuration at the Tooele Depot, as described in Complete Guide to the M1 GARAND and the M1 CARBINE by Bruce N. Canfield. The relief cut operating rod is post WWII Springfield Armory manufacture, the bolt is IHC manufacture, and the trigger housing is post WWII Winchester manufacture. The rifle is equipped with a tightly fit flash hider marked “SA / HIDER FLASH M 2”, a leather cheekpiece in excellent condition with light verdigris and handling marks, ink stamped “MRT / 3-69”, and is sighted with an M84 telescopic sight. The scope is in near excellent condition with fine drying cracks on the rubber eye piece and light wear marks on the scope body, is serialized “31394”, and has slightly cloudy glass with a post and crosshair reticle. A nice example of a likely authentic M1D sniper rifle rather than a “DCM” model. (14A9544-4) {C&R} (2500/4500)
