The barrels show a lovely contrasting damascus star pattern for most of their lengths, fading near the breeches and on the left tube for about the last 4” near the muzzles and in the carry point above the forend, with some gray streaks and some widely scattered light oxidation. Interestingly there is a scant brass bead front sight in place and someone has added, during the period of use, a very well-made very shallow v-notch rear sight showing strong remnants of fire temper blue, just to the rear of the Parker Brothers name engraved on the ribs. The under lifter frame and lockplates are a very pleasing smoky gray and pewter case-hardened patina with some generous colors on the lockplates, perhaps 10% right and 40% left. There is the very light Grade 2 borderline engraving and swirls of scroll here and there, this example with the very exaggerated tails on the letters “R” and the head of the letter “K”, in all of the “Parker Bros” markings. The fences are sculpted and chiseled in the early rebated style with small sun bursts ahead of each firing pin bushing. There are a few spots of scattered light oxidation but they are mostly unobtrusive. The checkered English walnut scant round knob pistolgrip stock is very interesting. It rates very fine and appears to be original in every respect including the varnish. The most striking feature is the fact that it has an extremely high comb and extraordinarily wide butt. However the stock has a seam running from the middle of the butt and continues into the top of the wrist, it is invisible beneath the checkering and extremely nicely matched within the body of the butt itself, so well that one actually misses it at first glance. The finish and hue of the wood matches perfectly, indeed the finish shows old crackling and crazing throughout, both top and bottom, and the antique hard rubber pad which is affixed encompasses the entire length of the butt, heel to toe, and has been there for many many years. The splinter forearm is unremarkable other than the fact that it remains in a very fine state of condition showing only light wear with good points and the metal a smooth smoky patina. The barrels still lock-up smartly and are on-face with the locks crisp, mechanically functional and hammers in-time. The length of pull to the antique pad is 14 1/4” and the arm shows drops of 1 1/4” and 1 7/8”. A very interesting old Grade 2 under-lifter which still shows some nice condition.
