The metal surfaces have mostly toned to a mottled brown and gunmetal gray patina with scattered patches of cleaned light pitting, dings and old oxidation staining. The brass barrel band, buttplate and patch box have toned to a pleasant ocher patina showing some scattered light dings. There are clear "T" stamps on the left side breech, heel of the buttplate and sling bar and the remaining markings are likewise very clear with the barrel marked "SHARPS RIFLE / MANUFG.CO. / HARTFORD CONN.", "SHARPS / PATENT / 1848" at the upper tang and "SHARP'S / PATENT / 1852" on the lockplate. There are a great deal of older replacement screws throughout, the saddle bar is intact with what appears to be a replacement ring, the priming pellet feed mechanism is missing but the internal plunger and spring are present, the trigger shows a brazed repair and the rear sight is a later Lawrence patent sight. The plain walnut stocks remain in fair condition as cleaned and refinished with a heavy brown finish also showing a number of small filler repairs, dings and areas shy of the metal. The inside of the buttplate and patch box lid are stamped "93", the barrel is matching the frame and the action seems to function well mechanically. GUIDELINES FOR FIREARM PURCHASES • All Federal, State and Local firearms laws will be observed. FFL holders may take possession of any firearm on day of sale when they present a signed copy of their Federal Firearms License. New Hampshire residents over the age of 21 may take possession of any firearm on day of sale providing the proper paperwork is filled out and the transfer has been approved either through the NH State Police or the FBI NICS System. While most NICS and State approvals are immediate, approvals could take up to 3 days. Most non-residents may take possession of long guns on day of sale after completing the proper forms and successfully completing a NICS check; modern handguns will need to be shipped to an FFL holder in the buyer’s home state. Buyer is responsible for any and all shipping charges and all items must be paid for on day of sale.
