The metal surfaces of the carbine have had a black enamel finish applied, which is now flaking off and exposing the metal beneath which displays a gray-brown patina. The bolt assembly, barrel band, nosecap, and buttplate show light to moderate oxidation staining. The receiver ring of the carbine is marked with a faded Argentinian crest and the left side receiver wall is crisply stamped ''MAUSER MODELO ARGENTINO 1891 / MANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN''. The rifle is marked with the correct proof marks on the receiver and bolt assembly, which is also serialized and matching. The hardwood stock is in very good condition with a 1 1/2'' crack in the tang, a 1 1/2'' crack in the stock butt near the toe, and scattered small scratches and dings. Additionally, the stock has been cut down approximately 3 1/2'' from its original length and brown varnish partially added to the front 9'' of the stock, a nosecap and left side sling mounts added, and the cavalry sling ring bar has been removed. The edges of the buttplate sit proud along the right and left side of the stock. An interesting Argentine Mauser that will likely make a good shooter.
