This rifle appears to have started out as a takedown rifle but the barrel was replaced at some point with the current 38-55 barrel with full thread takedown, although the frame is the interrupted thread style. The barrel retains about 50% original blue toning to a pleasant plum patina with the balance a pale gray along with scattered light oxidation staining and freckling. The action retains perhaps 20% original bright blue mostly present in the protected areas with the balance toned to gunmetal gray patina along with light freckling. The lever is a silvery gunmetal patina and the bolt remains mostly bright. There are three added drilled and tapped holes just behind the ejection port and one of them has a broken and ground down screw head. The smooth straight grip walnut perch belly buttstock and schnabel forend remain in about good condition with the forend showing some older added finish and the buttstock showing some remnants of finish on the left side. There is a 1" chip and a couple thin cracks at the upper tang, 1 3/4" crack at the left side stock flat, some overall lighter dings and handling marks. The forend, buttstock and buttplate are all matching the frame, the rifle is sighted with a replacement flattop sporting rear and large German silver front blade and the action still seems to function well mechanically. The barrel shows similar wear as the frame and has no doubt been with the frame for some time and is nevertheless in a desirable chambering.
