Catalog Auction info Auction #152 - Two-Day Sale, November 21st & 22nd (#152) 11/21/2026 9:00 AM EST Starts Ending 11/21/2026 9:00 AM EST Auction Info Lot #1242 German Percussion Fullstock Target Rifle Click image to enlarge PreviousNextSimilar Items Estimate: $1,200 - $1,800 Starting: $850 Description Description: .33 cal, 31” octagon barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing a fair amount of old grease and strong rifling. This is a very fine and quite smallbore rifle that, given its quality, is strangely unmarked. The stock will require a little attention as the upper buttplate screw is broken with the threaded end stuck in the wood and the bottom screw hole is a bit worn but the screw still seats. The broken-off acorn-headed end of the upper screw is included. Aside from this apology the rifle appears to have seen hardly any actual use, the barrel retaining about 95% plus original brown finish showing just a little sharp edge wear. There are dual gold bands inlaid at breech, an area of crosshatched matting behind rear sight and the crown is recessed and a small “2” is stamped at muzzle. The breech plug, lockplate and other fittings are all a lovely smoky case-hardened patina with subtle wisps of colors lurking about and are embellished in full coverage with superb wide Germanic foliate motifs and crosshatching. There is what appears to be an auerhahn on the upper tang along with a chamois at rear of lockplate and panoply of arms along the bow of the fancy spur triggerguard. The barrel is secured by dual wedges through iron escutcheons, all finely embellished, and the other fittings include dual ramrod thimbles with reeded edges, tailpipe, fancy decorative sideplate and Germanic sling swivels. The stock is quite attractive and appears to be rosewood or something similar and rates very fine retaining almost all of its original varnish with scattered light dings, handling marks and some light chipping around the toe and left edge at butt end of stock. The fine checkering remains mostly strong and the wood exhibits lovely dark grain lines. There is a nice left-side cheekpiece and thick horn nosecap that shows some light edge wear. A simple rosewood ramrod is included and all of the original elaborate finely adjustable sights are intact including tang sight with aperture disc, square notch rear iron sight and globe front with fine bead on post. The lock with double set triggers is crisp and seems to function normally. This is a very lovely rifle no doubt worth the investment of a little stock work.
