Alb". This is a very handsome rifle exhibiting Albright's familiar traits of relief rococo scroll carving, engraved and pierced brass patchbox and numerous silver inlays. The curly maple stock shows nice striping its entire length with the carving consisting of incise scrolls at the tailpipe with incise accent lines along the ramrod channel. The left side of the butt shows lovely rococo scroll to rear of cheekrest with incise scroll to front and geometric work to bottom of cheekrest. The bottom edge of the cheekrest has a tastefully engraved brass panel inlaid and the cheekrest itself has an engraved silver eight-pointed Hunter's star. There are a total of 17 silver inlays consisting of four half stars on either side of forestock just to rear of each of the four barrel keys. There are stylized hearts and tear drops on either side of wrist, an oval thumbpiece and a single tear drop in the toeline of the stock. The belly of the forestock shows a brass wear plate as well as a flat iron reinforcement plate neatly fit around the forward triggerguard tang, nicely following the contour of the stock and measuring four inches in length and showing a rich age patina. The brass furniture includes the previously mentioned pierced and engraved brass patchbox, buttplate to faceted heel plate and flat toeplate. The triggerguard is nicely formed with faceted surfaces, the sideplate is also gracefully formed and the ramrod thimbles and tailpipe are all faceted. The condition of the rifle is very nice with the barrel showing a gray brown patina overall with some scattered pitting in areas with well defined signature. The fine quality lock features a bridled frizzen with roller frizzen spring with very light decorative engraving on the cock and lockplate. The touchhole is perfectly centered in the pan and shows pitting and wear, more so than is evident on the pan and frizzen. The lock overall shows a pleasing gray brown patina with only a little scatted pitting in some areas. The stock has wonderful color and wonderful early style architecture with roman nose comb. While there is some subtle color difference in the forestock there are no evident repairs or restoration. A very handsome rifle from this highly regarded Centre County Pennsylvania maker.
