The metal surfaces of this beautiful 1894-made revolver retain about 99% original nickel finish showing a couple insignificant handling marks and a few tiny pinprick flakes in the nickel along a few sharp edges of the cylinder and the backstrap that are very unobtrusive and only worth mentioning due to the otherwise exceptional condition of the arm. The back surface of the hammer and other small parts retain about 96% original brilliant fire blue showing just a little subtle toning to smooth gray along the hammer and face of trigger. All markings remain crisp and clear showing the roll-marked “COLT. D.A. 32” on the left side of barrel, circled Rampant Colt on frame and the rear underside of the barrel shows a small stamped “32M”. The black checkered hard rubber grips are properly pencil-numbered to the gun and rate excellent to as-new with perhaps one or two tiny handling marks and retaining crisp Rampant Colt motifs and perfect fit. All of the serialized parts are matching and the action seems to function well mechanically. This revolver was originally sold by us as part of the very fine Colt collection of Bruce Skinner (Auction No. 94 Lot 40). There are unfortunately no shipping records for this gun extant, but the gun was acquired by Bruce Skinner in 1980 from a descendent of the original owner. The man stated he remembers seeing the gun at his grandmother's house as a child and that she purchased it at a dry-goods store in Holliston or Sherborn, Massachusetts in the early 1900s. He also told Mr. Skinner that she bought the revolver to use in a play. This is a wonderful revolver and remains one of the finest, if not the finest, examples of the extremely desirable 32 caliber Rainmaker revolver suitable for the most advanced Colt or antique American arms collections.
